Recover PST file from Backup
This solution will be helpful if you have regularly created backup of Outlook PST file. In order to use the backups you have to create a new Outlook PST file and then you can import the data. Otherwise, you can also use the backup file as default PST.
Follow the below steps to recover PST file Backup:
Step 1: Open MS Outlook on your system and create a new PST file. Go to Home>>New Items>>More Items>>Outlook Data File
Step 2: Type the desired name of the file and click OK
Step 3: After that go to File >>Open & Export >>Import and Export
Step 4: Now Select the option “Import from another program or file” from the Import and Export Wizard as shows in below fig:
Step 6: Now click on the Browse button and select the backup file which you want to export and make sure to check the other option regarding Duplicate. Here I have selected Replace Duplicates with items imported.
Step 7: To save data from backup PST select the destination folder and then click on the Next Button.
Step 8: In the last, click on the Finish Button
Method 2: Recover from Auto - Archived PST file
This is the another method apart from the Manual method, this will work if you have enabled Outlook Auto- Archive Option. Follow the below steps to find the Auto-Archived PST file:
Step 1: Open Outlook on your Windows Machine and then go to File>>Option>>Advanced
Step 2: In the Auto-Archive option click on the Auto-Archive Setting.
Step 3: Click on the browse button (A new popup dialog box appear) to select the destination folder in order to move the old items and then click OK.
Method 3: Restore from Previous Version in Windows
Just in case if you don’t have any choice for manual backup or Auto-Archive Outlook PST file then you can go for this method that is ‘Previous Version Feature’ in Windows. Follow the below steps:
Step 1: Find the folder where your PST file is located
Step 2: Now Click Right on the folder and then select the option Restore from Previous Version
Step 3: A new popup window appears where you will see multiple previous version. Select the version which you want to recover and then save it to the location where you want.

Recover your 0 Byte PST file using Inbox Repair Tool (ScanPST.exe)
In case the above methods are not working for you then you can give a try to free inbuilt utility of MS Outlook “ScanPST.exe”. It will first scan your PST file and in case any error found then it starts the repair process. Let’s have a look how can you use ScanPST.exe;
1. First of all, quit Outlook and then open Inbox Repair Tool
2. Type ScanPSt.exe in the search box and then Double click to open it
3. Select the PST file which needs to be repair by clicking on the Browse button
4. And then click on the Start button to start the scan process
5. If there will be any error found it tell to do the repair, so click on the Repair Button and once the process gets complete cross check your PST file that error is resolved or not.
