Why we perform migration from mac outlook to windows Outlook?

Emails are most promising application to keep user data secure and safe. Microsoft introduces various email applications (Outlook Express, Outlook and many more) to their users. Moreover considering mac user Microsoft also introduces Outlook for Mac to run outlook application on mac.  Let me tell user difference between these applications.                                                                                                                      

Outlook for Mac: Run on mac systems and uses Identities to store user information. Outlook for mac follows 

OLM file structure.  

Outlook for mac store their database file at location:

Storage Location: ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2011 Identities/Main Identity/Data Records

“~”: Stands for home folder of user

Before proceeding to outlook for windows let’s have a close look towards Outlook Identity Databases

Rebuild Mac Outlook Identity Database:

NOTE: Make sure user hard drive has enough maximum space.

Step1:

• Quit all applications
• Point to Tool bar select option application categorized under menu.
• Now choose option Quit
• Force Quit Applications

NOTE: Apply Force Quit Application only when user is not able to quit the application

• User will see a ‘Force Quit Application ‘ 
• Select desired Application user wants to close. 
• After selection of application choose Tap on button ‘Force Quit’ 
• Proceed to Next step:

Before proceeding to next step note down the size of Outlook identity. Size of Outlook Identity must be three times of current Outlook Identity. 

Here are steps to get know about size of Identities:

• Now select Microsoft User Data folder categorized in Documents folder under Finder menu
• Select the Identities folder present in Office 2011 Identities folder
• Point to File menu, choose Get Information option 
• User will easily get information about database size

Step2: It’s time to Backup current database Identity:

• Select Microsoft User Data folder categorized in Documents folder under Finder menu
• Select option Duplicate by doing right click on the Office 2011 Identities folder

Imp Info: Don’t interrupt in completion of back up process because interruption leads to data loss. To rebuild database backup is necessary because if any mistake occur then user have a backup of its crucial data.

Step3:

• Press down Option Key for long to start Outlook for Mac 2011.
• Open up Outlook for Mac 2011 application and switch to Application folder
• Open up Microsoft Database Utility.app categorized under office folder
• User will see a Microsoft Database Utility window
• Choose option ‘Select an identity’ and Rebuild your database.
• Wait till rebuilding process complete.
• After completion of process ‘Identity window appears’ containing message
• Click on Done button ‘Your database was rebuilt successfully’ appears.
• Finally, click ‘Done’ button to complete rebuild process
• Create a New Database Identity:
• Open Up Microsoft Database Utility
• Location of Database Utility App: Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Office/.
• Other Option: Hold down option key for long and click on Outlook icon in Dock
• To create a new Identity click on ‘Add’ button or enter the identity name of new identity.
• User can also choose Rename or Delete button.
• Now save changes and Quit Outlook Application.
• Restart your Outlook Application to Check whether identities have been created or not.
• Above mentioned is the procedure for Outlook Identities.

Outlook for Windows: Designed for Windows system. Outlook for windows uses PST file structure to store user information. Although both applications are designed by Microsoft but both application are compatible with different operating systems as well as file structures.

Reasons Why Outlook for Windows is chosen over mac?

• Rare availability of Mac system

• Mac system is tough to handle

• It’s difficult to handle Identities

• Need of Technical Expert to handle Mac system error or same is also true for OLM files.

• Mac Outlook Identities easily got corrupt.
