Most Common Outlook Express Problems and Solution

Outlook Express Error
Microsoft introduced Outlook Express with Windows system. Overall working of Outlook Express is good but as we know nothing is perfect in this moving world. In the same manner Outlook Express users also faced some errors. In my post I will share few most common errors faced by Outlook Express users.

Most Common Outlook Express Errors:

Here are few most common problems with Outlook Express that users face while using Outlook Express:

1 Outlook Express Receiving and Sending mail problem:   Most of times users mail boxes unable to receive mails. Possible reasons behind this problem are:

•Mail server problem
•Incorrect Mail Client
•MX (Mail Exchange)records are incorrect
•Inbox exceeds the defined mail quota

It’s not to worry about because solution to above mentioned problem is very simple and easy to implement.
For mail server problem: Mail servers using POP3 or IMAP protocols for sending and receiving emails. Port address is port 110 and port 143. I would suggest users to go and check POP3 and IMAP protocol settings.

For Incorrect Mail Client settings:  usually users enter incorrect mail client settings and sometime users forgot the credentials filled by them. It is advised to user to fill all necessary required credentials (Outgoing and incoming Server name, username, and password) correctly or note down all information required for future use.

For MX (Mail Exchange) records: For Mail Exchange records check your DNS records to ensure current handling of emails. Incase if user found that records are not appropriate then contact to your internet service providers.

For Inbox: On daily basis we receive and send no of mails. This makes our mailbox size exceeds to desired limits. To keep your mail box working properly emptied your mailbox by deleting all unnecessary mails from your mailbox.

2 Failed to Delete an Email: This usually happens with us when we try to delete an email from our mailbox it is not deleted. We all know Outlook Express works with Identities. Possible reason behind this problem is corruption of Identities. To solve this problem move the email you want to delete to another folder and have a check for items.dbx file. Delete this file and restart your Outlook Express Application to check for changes.

3 Error 0x800420CB: When user tries to open their Outbox they receive a error message with code
“Message Could Not Be Opened From Outbox Folder,” .

There are two possible reasons behind this error occurrence:
  • Corruption of DBX file
  • Or may be user have two identical profile with same name
To resolve this error follow following steps to solve:

1 Open Outlook Express Application and point to Tools menu open Mail tab.
2 Now select option duplicate mail account and remove.
3 Now repeat steps till one mail account remain
4.Click Close.

NOTE: While performing above steps don’t try to firm the behavior,

5 Now rename Outbox.dbx file.

In case if user doesn’t find Outbox.exe in their system then search for Outbox.exe file in their system.
Now restart your system and check for applied changes.

4 Inactive Performances:  Outlook Express behavior is sometime very annoying as it takes a lot of time in uploading and sometimes it hung up and irritates us most. This type of behaviors usually occurs when Windows Messenger is also running. To resolve this problem users are advised to check their Windows Messenger settings. If they found automatic login checkbox enable then disable the checkbox.

Above are most common Outlook Express errors and their possible solutions. Outlook Express users must use Outlook Express with complete accuracy because if they stuck in a problem then Microsoft is not going to help them anymore. In recent news Microsoft has ended support for Windows XP and same is true for Outlook Express. There is another solution user can switch from Outlook Express to Outlook Application and can continue their work without any hindrances.
