What makes Thunderbird user’s first choice over MS-Outlook?

Email applications are a common way to transfer information from one end to another end. How good it is if these email application are available free of cost? Yes, you are right. Here I am talking about open source technology.

Here I am discussing about Thunderbird application a recognized name in world of open source technology after that I will tell users about key benefits of using Thunderbird application.

Thunderbird Mail Client: Thunderbird is basically a well behaved cross email application platform designed as a newsgroup
and chat client. File Format supported by Thunderbird application is

1.    For mail box format:  MBOX
2.    For Internal Database: Mork
3.    For Internal Database  Sqlite

Thunderbird is more in demand as compare to other email clients. There are a lot of reasons behind this.

Let’s have discussion on points that make Thunderbird application different from other email applications. NOTE: Here I am taking MS-Outlook in to consideration as other email client

Why Thunderbird is an upper hand over other email clients?

Autonomous File Saving: Thunderbird email files are stored in MBOX file format. Other folders (inbox, sent items, drafts) of Thunderbird email client are saved autonomously. This autonomous saved feature is absent in Outlook. Mailbox information of user in MS-Outlook is saved in a file named as PST file with extension .pst. This autonomous file feature attracts user to Thunderbird.

File Complexity: As I mentioned above Thunderbird files can be save independently. In case if file get corrupt due to any reason (accidental system shutdown, slow net connection,) then there is no harm to other data or folders as a particular folder get corrupt. On the other hand scenario for MS-Outlook file is fully different. In PST file if one file corrupt then user has to lose his whole data. That’s why Thunderbird is user’s first choice.

Open Source of technology: It’s a well-known fact that Thunderbird is an open source of technology. Being an Open source of technology everybody can do modifications and enhance Thunderbird features. One more key point of Open source technology is available to user at no cost. User can easily download their set up for Thunderbird mail and enjoy free services. In MS-Outlook user has to purchase office suite and need to pay for maintenance services. That is too tedious.

Email-Security: Every user is concerned for their data security that’s why emails are given priority. Let me know user about feature of Thunderbird i.e. Spam pal. Most of email application does not provide option of automatic filtering of spam mail. Thunderbird has an automatic feature that identified email scam. Additionally user can adjust antivirus settings and scan their email before opening.
In MS-outlook user need to adjust filter settings by own.

Software Compatibility: All email applications have a predefined operating system. MS-Outlook has compatibility with Mac and windows operating system. It simply indicates there is threshold for such type of email application.
Thunderbird email application has compatibility with more than one operating system. (Linux, UNIX and windows platform) while this support is absent in MS-Outlook.

User Interface: If I compare user interface of both application then I must say Thunderbird is winner. Thunderbird Tabs are designed in a very good manner as they save user’s lot of time. Tabs have good ability to switch from one tab to another tab without wasting of time. While in other email application user has to think twice while switching between tabs.

I hope above mentioned reasons are quite enough to explain why Thunderbird proves an upper hand over other email applications?
