How to upgrade from MAC Outlook to MS- Outlook?

Emails are considered as a legal document whether user is a corporate client or home user. With the growing era of technology nothing can replace Emails still emails are safest and secure way to transfer information. I already explained in my previous post why we choose desktop email over webmail. Now I am going to explain why we choose Windows Outlook over mac outlook?

Mac systems are also well recognized category in operating systems. Still users first choice is windows operating system. May be users is thinking why?
Let me share few reasons that explain itself why we prefer windows over Mac?

Common reasons for Choosing Outlook application over Mac systems:

• Much easy to afford Windows system
• Easy to learn windows interface
• Simple and user friendly structure
• Obtainability of hardware on windows
• Windows have good gaming choices

Above mentioned reasons are quite enough to explain why windows are favored over Mac system?

Here point of discussion is email application. Which application we choose for email? Answer is simple i.e. MS-Outlook. I already explained why MS-Outlook is best then other application of Microsoft? Here I will share a new point to explain better why we choose MS-Outlook?  i.e. file structure of OLM and PST files.
OLM File: It’s tough for a user to manage olm files as their storage location is on server additionally for a normal user it is tough to resolve olm files error by own. To keep their olm files healthy user need a technical expert.

PST File: On the other hand pst file is just opposite of olm file. In MS-Outlook storage location of PST file is user machine. There is no need to access server for backup of PST files. Moreover file structure of MS-Outlook is not so complex. User can easily understand such a structure and resolve any issue related to file by own. To access olm file on windows system there is need to perform Import and Export operation. Here are steps to perform conversion operation.

User need to perform Export and Import operation to access olm file data in to Outlook. Follow few simple steps to perform such operation.


Export Mailbox from Outlook for Mac

• Start Outlook 2011 applications
• Point to File Menu select option Export categorized under context menu
• User will see an Export wizard. In Export wizard select .olm files (Outlook for Mac data files) also select option ‘Items of the following types under this’
• Now select or deselect the mailbox items that user want to export i.e.  Contacts, calendars, Tasks etc.
• Proceed to next step by clicking on Next button 
• Now select the items that you want to delete or select option ‘No, does not delete items’
• Again click on Next button
• Now save the exported data to a file and select location from drop down menu
•  Click on save button to save data.
•  Wait till Export process complete and Click on Done

 Import Outlook Data files in to Outlook (From Mac to Windows)

• Launch Outlook application on your machine
• Point to Start menu follows the sequence: All Programs > Microsoft Office >
• In Outlook Ribbon select File Tab and select Option menu
• In Right Pane click on Import option and select Export wizard
• This will open an Import and Export Wizard. Now select option ‘Import from another program or file’ or ‘Choose an action to perform field’
• Click on Next button to complete Import and Export process
• User will see an option ‘Select file type to import from field’,
• Select ‘Outlook Data File (.pst)’and proceed for next step
• Now start browsing to locate PST file which we created earlier

Now do Import and choose an option. Now click on the Next button.Before proceeding to Next step choose one option from given options described below

• Replace duplicate files with items imported
• Allow duplicates to be created
• Do not import duplicates

• Now, locate the PST files and also enable the check box ‘Include Subfolders’.
•  Now, Click on Finish button to complete the import process.

By performing above steps user can access their olm file in MS-Outlook. The above mentioned process seems to be too long and time consuming. There is an alternate solution to get rid of this problem user can go for third party tools. In market there are number of OLM to PST converter tool available that let user perform conversion in a blink of eye. Bonus point of using third party tool is assurance of no data loss while performing conversion.
