Choose wisely between OLM and PST

Emails become a part of our daily life. In our daily routine we usually receive or send thousands of emails. Technology is getting advance like a sped of rocket. This rocket speed put us in dilemma which application we choose as our email client? In previous post I already discussed about all email applications provided with operating systems.

Let’s have a discussion on most famous email application provides us:

•   Outlook Mac 
•   Outlook Windows

These applications are not unknown to us but still we are puzzled which application

we should choose? I am here to clear out this dilemma. Let’s proceed

MS-Outlook: Most of us use this application as a personal information manager. May be user is wondering why I am using this word ‘most of us’? Essentially there is a reason behind that i.e

• Adaptable Interface
• Ease of installation
• Ease of availability
• Storage Capacity
• Cost Effective and many more

I hope now user will understand why I use most of us. Let’s proceed to other creation of Microsoft i.e Outlook for Mac.

Mac-Outlook: Mac outlook is designed to run Outlook on MAC operating systems. Structure of Mac- outlook is quite different from windows outlook. Mac- Outlook stores all information in OLM file format. As compared to PST files there are high chances of OLM file corruption as compare to PST file. That’s why while using MAC outlook user takes care of OLM files. Once OLM files got corrupt user will lose their data.

Such type of corruption issues can be resolved easily with the help of OLM repair tool. One more option user can avail is file conversion. User can switch their email application platform i.e. OLM to PST. I know the question of answer well Why we use OLM to PST? I am explaining here:

Calendar:  Calendar plays a very vital role in our daily life. Calendar works as a manager of our day to day activities. If I compare calendar option in both applications then I must say outlook for windows is best application. MS-Outlook let users easily drag message from windows system and save our valuable time while such feature is not available in Mac- Outlook.

User Interface: Before using any application we must test application once for its working flow. User Interface of both applications is good but has some issues. It’s easy to install MS-Outlook by your own and there is no need of technical expert. In contrast if any issue comes across with outlook for Mac then user must need a technical expert to resolve installation issues.

Graphics: MS-Outlook has a lot of features and same is true for Mac-Outlook. Outlook for windows is enriched with a built in feature named as ‘Stationary’. By using this feature user can customize their email graphics. User can make their outgoing email more attractive by inserting grid lines and images.
MAC-Outlook2011 is not blessed with such type of feature.

Hardware: Of course cost is main factor behind choosing any email application. We all know about availability of Mac and Windows system. It’s easy to find windows system as compared to Mac system. Also every time user need a Mac expert to get resolve all issues associated with Mac systems and Mac mail.

Smart Work: Windows system work more smartly as compared to MAC application. While working with Windows user will see a every running application menu on task bar. Such type of activity is not supported by Mac systems. Moreover Mac is not concern about whether application is running or not Mac will display only one application at task bar. This is so puzzling.

Now user can decide which application to work on. I know surely user will go for Outlook for windows. To access OLM files data in Outlook for windows there is need to convert OLM data in to PST file format. To convert OLM data in to PST file format user needs an OLM to PST file converter tool. After conversion there is need to import PST files in to Outlook. Here are all steps:

How to Import PST files in Outlook2013?

•    Start Outlook2013 application
•    Move cursor to Outlook Ribbon and select File Tab,
•    Now, on the open page select option ‘Open & Export’’ and do click.
•    After clicking on page user will see a ‘Import and Export Wizard’
•    Select option ‘Import from another program or file’ listed in series and proceed
•    In wizard entitle as ‘‘Import a File’ select option ‘Outlook Data File’ (.pst) and target Next.
•    Now, move to window labeled as ‘Import Outlook Data File’.
•    Browse to locate the PST file
•    Select the located PST file and open PST file.
•    Select desired Radio Button from the options displayed
o    Replace duplicates with items imported
o    Allow duplicates to be created
o    Do not import duplicates
•    Select the file (.pst) to Import
•    Select the top level folder, ensure the Include subfolders check box has been selected, choose the location where the .pst file should be imported, and click Finish.
•    Again there is a wizard labeled as ‘Import Outlook Data File
•    Now choose top level folder or root folder (Outlook Data File)
•    Enable check box labeled as: Include Subfolders’
•    Select a radio button from the two options to ensure the location to import PST file
o    Import items into the current folder
o    Import items into the same folder in:
•    Finish the process by clicking on Next button
•    Wait till Outlook import PST files in selected location.

NOTE: It is must for user to keep Outlook in active mode till importing process complete.

There may be possibility user is in need to log-in to their account. In that case it is suggested to use Outlook Web Access
