How to Remove Duplicate Contacts in Various Outlook Versions?

Contacts are one of the precious information that you collect in due course of time after your best efforts. Sometimes situations occur when you import contacts from an older PST file or some other means like Smartphone or other personal digital assistance device (PDA). However, sometimes after importing these contacts, you find out that some of them are duplicate contacts. This especially happens when the duplicate detection is turned off, but you should not worry even if your mailbox or Outlook PST file is filled with duplicate items, as there are methods to remove duplicate items after completing the import process.


Steps to Delete Duplicate Items in Outlook 2002, Outlook 2003, and Outlook 2007:


•  In Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2002 point to ‘Current View’ and ‘View’ menu after that click the option to change the folder view to table type view. On the other hand, on the ‘view’ menu of Outlook 2003, point to ‘Arrange By’. After that click to change the folder view to table type view.
•  After this, right click on a column heading and after that click ‘Field Chooser’.
•  Now at the top of the ‘Field Chooser’ there is a list from that list click to select the ‘All <item name> fields.
•  Now drag the ‘Modified’ field to the table heading.
• Make sure that the duplicates items have the unique date from original items. If you found them to be unique, then click the ‘Modified’ heading in a way that these items are sorted by this field.
•  Select and click the first item of this set that you want to delete and scroll through the last item and then click the last item while holding down the ‘SHIFT’ key.
•  After this, click ‘DELETE’ to delete these selected items permanently from your system.

Steps to Delete Duplicate Items in Outlook 2010:

•  Open Outlook 2010 and then select the folder for which you want to delete duplicate items.
•  Go to the ‘Ribbon’ and click ‘View’ tab after that click ‘Change View’ and then click to change the folder view to table type view.
•  Right click the column heading and then click ‘Field Chooser’.
•  Click ‘All <item name>’ field from the list that is provided at the top of the field chooser.
•  Select and drag the ‘Modified’ field to the table heading.
•  Make sure that duplicate items have unique date from the original set of items. If it is unique, then click the ‘Modified’ heading to sort the items by this field.
• Select and click the first item in this set to delete and scroll down to the last item to be deleted. After that, click the last item while holding down the ‘SHIFT’ key.
• Click ‘DELETE’ to delete these selected items completely from your mailbox.
