An Error message in MS Outlook: Cannot start Microsoft Outlook

Today in the morning I have got one email from a friend related to an error on MS Outlook which says: “Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window.”

It may possible you too have experience the same error while accessing MS Outlook.

Let us see how we can recover and resume Outlook again.

It could be possible there are different reasons for this to occur. Such as Office 2007 Service Pack 2 updates which can be the cause of this error for certain a configuration but there is possibility that it can also occur in Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2003.

In such condition, the configuration file for the Navigation Pane gets corrupted and prevents Outlook from starting successfully. To recover, you need to start Outlook with the resetnavpane switch;

For Windows Vista and Windows 7

Start-> type; outlook.exe /resetnavpane

For Windows XP

Start-> Run; outlook.exe /resetnavpane

Make sure there is space between outlook.exe and /resetnavpane.

I have experienced that most of the time the above method worked successfully but it is also possible there could be other causes when the error still remains the same. In case, If  you are still facing the issue after applying this fix then you need to try these troubleshooting steps or post in the Outlook forums.
